Since I read this article on the stuy town blog, I was intrigued to read more. The problems over there makes FBG look like heaven. Raw sewage coming up the kitchen sink and tenants being told to "mop it up", gas explosions forcing tenants to relocate to a common area with cots, Tuberculosis outbreaks due to inadequate air flow, free falling elevators, the list goes on and on. I don't know why anyone would move in there in the first place. They want 3G for a 1 bdrm. You can get a place for less than that in the east village. I'll take my occasional broken elevator and leaky radiator over that place any day.
Seriously. That place is WAY over-priced. I mean, I'm not exactly a trendy new yorker, so maybe that "Alphabet City" area is the place to be (though I've been there and I don't see it). It's not even near good transportation. The first Manhattan L stop? That's good for going to Williamsburg or taking 10-15 minutes to go to a real subway stop. I mean I'd rather live there than FBG, but not at anything near that price difference.
